getting paid (domestic work)

I find its the big posh houses with there garage full of expensive cars that are the worst kind of people to get paid from....im sure they look at us like scum... that we should be grateful for the work.
Honest hard working folk that have saved for years to have work done are trying to pay before you finish. ....which makes it even worse when they get screwed by the cowboys out there

Its funny you say about the more upmarket customers - apart from commercial companies (don't pay agreed amount, 3 month payment delays, can't find you on CIS excuses), the only customers I ever chase for payments, are those who should have been able to pay it with change from their pocket. And its always the excuses like "the grouting is not quite right" or "the tiles are not straight." Meanwhile, my council house tenant customers have the cheque ready or the money transferred before I get home from the job. Most of them watch me tiling (makes a change from watching dvd's), always make me tea, and always tell me what a great job I did.

Quality.

I always felt bad taking a tip off an old couple who'd spent the whole week serving tea hourly and biscuits here and there. Knowing they'd saved for years for their conservatory or whatever. Used to always give it back. Sometimes found it as we drove off in my jacket or something. Crafty sods those oldies are.

Worst thing is getting paid upfront!..

Had that happen a few times, I won't accept it until finished (obviously keep the materials element).

Had it recently, give a quote for small domestic bathroom, happy to proceed turns up young lass said money's on the table!., (thanks but no thanks)
Then again were good honest folk us Yorkshire folk ha ha.

Yep I've had a few try pay on day one, don't like that, I ALWAYS leave money in the job for the end, and if it runs for few weeks I'll just take a draw each week.
It has a certain element of risk I spose cos u could get bumped for a larger amount if they were that inclined, but (touch wood, rabbits foot and anything else I can think of!) the only real difficult payers are the corporate building companies!
Out of that game now tho!
