Glass Bricks....

....anyone ever done them??

Been asked by a customer I have done a bit for, but I have never done them?
its only about 16 blocks above a doorway, and I will get some strapping of some sort to reinforce.......anything else I need to know??

I have never done them but i did a swimming pool for the guy who used to own Screwfix ,and he had a big wall built in them in the pool area, they used Stainless Steel reinforcing dowel vertical/horizontal they had a pre-baged mortar that was mixed quite dry/crumbly and when it was all set they grouted with tile grout , hope this helps you

Was going to use a white flexi addy.........don't suppose there is much difference between that and glass block addy?

I would be inclined to use the correct adhesive and grout...it was all supplied when i did it The joints are quite large so make sure if you do use grout that it will be ok. Stainless rods etc were supplied too.

All this guy has supplied is the blocks and spacers.........nothing else?

small amount of blocks so maybe SPF addy will be ok, dont really know.

yes, buy the correct adhesive, the one i used was mixed to a semidry consistency and then used to build the glass blocks
.do not try to use it mixed like wet mortar..
make sure you use the spacers, reinforce with bars as necessary.
you might think the adhesive wouldnt stick with being semidry but it does really well .
i grouted next day with bal wide joint grout

If i remember correct the adhesive I used was more like plasterboard adhesive than tile adhesive.

yeah i have fitted them. metal dowling rod from top to bottom in between bricks, use the right adhesive and get some info in fitting it wasnt as straight forward as i first thought. still pretty simple really as long as you get the right info

joiners fitted these on a job i was on last year...steel rods to reinforce and frosted glass adhesive for the blocks
