You are not missing out at all. The roller may give you a better finish but a good levelling compound as produced today by most companies will give a good enough finish for tiling to as long as you prepare, mix , pour and trowel over correctly.

I paid £40 for a spiked roller expecting it to turn me into a slc wizard. £40 down the drain.

Had a spiked roller for a while now , needs to be the long spike type though. Used it yesterday over some DEVI, flat as pancake. Not the answer to all slc jobs ie when bays are needed but i wouldnt be without it now tbh.

Tried a spike roller on slc once and that was it, used to do 2 part resin floors and the spikey was used to get rid of the air bubbles.....
