Got the dreaded phone call today.

Thats rubbish news phill, your the type of guy to just fix it though then try to get compensation. I assume you supplied the materials? An investigation will prove the goods are faulty, reinforced by the fact you mention so many other failures from the same time, I'm sure there will be others on here to verify this fact. So Wilst we gather all possible information on here, I suggest you get the ball rolling with genesis and we shall get to the bottom of it and you won't be left out of pocket. Chin up mate

Thanks Mark, I didn't supply any materials on this job, I did suggest Ditra to the client but he did a deal with CTD for all tiles adhesives G mat etc. The thing that really bugs me is that I advised them to go for a decoupling membrane thinking I was saving them any issues in the future, it seems I was wrong.

You're regarded as one of the most knowledgable on here, I'm sure u weren't wrong pal. As you say, you recommended ditra, they chose genesis.
It should have been fit for purpose but obviously failed where ditra wouldn't have.

It's a nightmare Phil! I've had the Dural mat fail on me couple of years ago,but as you said they owned up to it and sorted it!!!! Genesis should be sorting this mate... Don't let them off the hook!

Yeah but when you advised on decoupler you did not have hindsight regarding the pattern of g mat falures. This will be hard for you to accept but IMHO, this is not your problem. I honestly know your not looking for a way out of this phil but I think this is a direct issue between client and supplier considering you not only advised a different product but you never supplied the materials. ... You have a million times more experience than me but you know I'm making sense eh.

not wrong you relied on up to date infomasion at the time .we all like to move with the times but some times we are used like test dummys on new prouducts .so they can iron out the problems .the great shame of this that so many new very early that there were problems with this prouduct .but the tile world is so fragmented .keeping tilers and retalers in the dark .how anybody can change this is the big question.your best bet here is to ask them to send you reports when the problems first started to apare and tell them you are doing your own to compare .with theres .how early did they know they had problems .before you used it .prove this and they wount have a leg to stand on .why did it take so long to with draw it from the market. when was there offical recal .and what did they do for tilers who had used this did they receive letters saying there might be problems asking them to declare jobs were this had been used .all a deralition of duty if not hope this helps

Sorry to hear that mate, not good at all. I have to say I have always used Ditra as I was afraid the gmat may fail. Keep us updated and keep your chin up!

you shouldn't feel responsible Phil, but from my own experience you do. I got the dreaded call a couple of years ago, luckily I'd used Dural and they remedied it at their own cost. I still felt bad for the customer though.

It was not exactly a new product .. it was just a bad batch that was made within a certain period for certain suppliers... it was sorted after that period but that does not give belief in a product that has failed in the past.. hence why Dural moved away from said manufacturer ..
