grout residue on tumbled travertine

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I'll make sure the cleaner is alkaline based.

Out of interest does anyone else use the mapai grout? Surely 15 mins pot life must be a problem on big jobs?

I think the porosity of the tiles compounded the issue though. If I had sealed them I think I wouldnt be posting this!
It's my own fault though I should have read the instructions

By sealing the stone, the porosity of the stone will not draw moisture from your grout ,keeping it wet slightly longer and easing the cleaning up

I always seal travertine before I grout.
Fix, clean, seal, grout, clean, seal, job done.

Mapei grout can go off quickly if mixed with dirty water .or if to much in bucket mixed it seems to set it off quickly. Also scraping off drier grout into the grout bucket makes it go off quicker or after initial mixing adding more water also does .and lastly was grout in date .

The water was clean, bucket was clean followed the mixing instructions and used the correct amount of water. Mixed with electric paddle. It did say rapid set on the pack but in very small writing. The instructions state 20 mins pot life. It was only a 1kg bag as it was a small area.

I just don't see the point of it going off so quick. 1 hour fine but 20 mins? Need to buy a new bucket as well !!
