Grout slopping on walls

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Absolutely battered from work this week.
6 days on 2 projects put to bed.
Long story short......

Best way to stop grout slopping onto walls or protect the fresh paintwork please?
I like my grout to run fast off the float.
When I get into the riddim sometimes the leftwards upstroke slops a lot onto the wall.
Practice more or is there a good way to dress the walls first?

BTW I've been tiling on my own for 6 months & having a bloody great time. Even managing to keep my hands & overalls clean now.
Thoughts warmly appreciated.
Ta
just put a little less on the float.

New float & mixed a bit firmer, sorted! Was just wondering if anyone else having this problem.

So you grouted first & then fixed the tile? 😉
On the back foot; I really like those victorian floors I saw on your website John. Great stuff

Grouted other people's work for months. Cement, Bal Tad and other coloured bits in the joints to clean out before white cement was used to fill the joints. Washed tools, made the tea and swept up their mess - that's before you were allowed to mix the sand and cement and get the tiles out of the soak!
When they say the good old days don't you believe them. Bag of powder and a paddle, spacer pegs and dry environments now - this is the good life!
And thanks for the comments.
John
