Posted this in the wrong place the other day, epoxy was recommended, but I'm worried about there being too much flex for epoxy. It's and bar island with a 200 mm overhang all the way round. Client is on-site today to discuss and I'm still not sure

I have a bit of an odd one, am doing a shop fit, client is having 100 x 100 ceramics on the bar top, bar has been constructed by 2 18mm ply sheets glued and screwed together, no apart from the obvious breakage issues, I am a bit unsure what products are best to use, was thinking of double priming ply then fixing antifacture/ uncoupling mate, the thin fleece stuff first, but adhesive I'm not sure what's best to use, same with grout? Any suggestions

I'd be confident epoxy would cope with this install. However, a thin antifracture mat give added reassurance even if not strictly required.

It has to be Epoxy for hygiene purposes so if there is too much flex it isn't suitable for tiles let alone epoxy grout.

I'd be happy to tile this. You've basically got 36mm ply, fix it to the bar/cabinets where possible. Prime every face and edge as normal, S1 and epoxy.

Really only the OP knows how much flex there is!

There. s not any notable flex on the bar as it's been made, it's just been years since I've used epoxy and am unsure about its flex properties on a timber substrate. Just a bit twitch about using the epoxy as it's not something I have a great deal of experience with

Can't not agree with this John! Just posting my opinion and advice but you can't beat physically seeing the job for yourself. I've not used epoxy myself for a number of years but other than one notable exception (a chippy job I've posted about elsewhere) I've never experienced a problem and that includes worktops.

Tiled and grouted with Kerakol products and it flexed. Best grout used for a long time.
