I don't know about gypsum screeds not being that popular at present..

Just had another phone call to go and look at a large floor and yes another gyvlon one...

That is 5 so far this year( All gyvlon)... a big increase to what i have seen being used in screeds locally..

How many of you lot have seen an increase in gypsum screeds being used.?

Mine are all timber floors - Pine/Oak/chipboard!
Even the solid flooring laid by Hadrian has been removed sometime in the last 1500 years and replaced by plywood.

unfortunately seeing more and more recently..I reckon this is a combination of the cost effectiveness of them and, it seems, the ability of being able to use it in bigger bays...whatever the reasons they are a lot of aggro...and it seems they will become more and more popular as in europe. The real trouble I find is although companies are keen to use it for their own reasons, there is still a lot of confusion about preparation issues for floor finishers in this 'cross over' period ..ie. I've met plenty of site agents who have given me the blank stare when you start mentioning the issues involved with tiling onto one..

The issues are minimal if done correctly though Jamie...

BUT as you say it is getting these correct preperation points across... I have some PDF's on preperation for Gyvlon if you require a looksie..

You can then print them off and show to builders/customers etc

that would be great if you could!
I've had that discussion on the last 2 sites I've worked and amazingly the agents have been totally unaware it works differently to any other screed.
can you pm them to me? cheers.

They are not aggro if you know how to treat them. You are right that the knowledge base out there amongst the floor layers is confused and uncertain. If you have any specific questions I would be perfectly happy to answer them either through the forums or privately if you prefer.
I can assure you all that there has been ovet he last 12 months a massive up take into the self build and small builder market which means that for most tilers I guess on here you will come across them more and more.

The only issues I really come across is either inappropriate combinations of materials or more commonly in all honesty good materials used badly.

Seems to be really taking off these Gyvlon screeds Alan..... must be the low laitence..

It must be Dave....or of course my own influence in the market.

Perhaps we could get some sort of training sessions sorted through TF. I am doing some with some of the major manufactures.
