Bikers Urged To Stay Safe This Easter
Officers from South Yorkshire Police will be on the roads this Easter to help keep motorcyclists safe from injury.
In Force areas from South Yorkshire to the Scottish Borders, police officers will be conducting several high profile operations to encourage people to ride safely.
There are a variety of events happening in Force areas across the north of the country over the Easter weekend - from high profile patrols to organised meets and escorted ride outs.
Police motorcyclists want people who are getting their bikes out for the first time since the winter to remember that their skills, together with their bikes, may have rusted a little.
Sgt Nick Walker, representative from Forces in the North East of the country, said: “Many riders garage their bikes over the winter period and it is vitally important that they check their machines over for all essential maintenance items before they set off for their first ride.
“It is also vitally important that they remember that they may not have ridden for a number of months and their individual skills may not be as well honed as they were at the end of autumn. Throughout the region we want people to enjoy their riding but we want them to do it safely and without injury to themselves or anybody else.
“When people go for a ride out, they will generally enter into various force areas which is the reason for all the forces supporting a common objective.
“The volume of motorcyclists on the roads will increase from March onwards and it is equally important for drivers of other vehicles to be more aware and think about bikes being out there.”
South Yorkshire Police are supporting this initiative. They will have additional patrols on all major routes, paying particular attention to the roads favoured by leisure motorcyclists.
In addition to these patrols, which will be supported by the force helicopter, there will be a number of locations where road safety professionals will be on hand to speak to bikers.
On Good Friday the display bus will be at the Sheffield Motorcycle Centre on Saville Street in Sheffield. On Saturday the bus will be at Rainbow Motorcycles on Alma Road, Rotherham.
