Heating oil stolen

Hi all,

Just to warn you all. My oil fired boiler burnt out a few days ago. As its a bit milder, i was not too bothered that the servicing guy couldnt come till this morning. I knew it wasnt the oil level as I had half a tank a few weeks ago!

Anyways, the burner had 'burned out' and could have set it on fire....
He checked the oil tank anyway to find it empty, after a few seconds of head scratching that sinking feeling took over.

£500 quids worth of heating oil and £360 to fit a new burner!:mad2:
Gutted!!

Make sure it doesnt happen to you!

Spose nobody noticed a thing. Not easy to nick 500L of oil without a tanker.........or a bloody big bucket :yikes:

that is shocking davy G , one thing i find weird though , should the boiler not have a low oil flow cutout to protect the burner ?

Obviously not! Would seem like a sensible thing though! I will ask the chap who fixed it, the boiler is about 15 years old now anyway, he was happy enough to fix it rather than replace it....

.... so its either a good boiler or he can sense a cash cow if it happens again 🙁

No way! Stealing Oil?!?!?!

How the bloody hell does one do that? I wouldn't know where to start?!

You need to get yourself a couple of guard dogs mate, cheaper than replacing Oil every now and again.

Chances are, if they know it was easy that time, they may come back when they run out.

I guess a tanker of some sort pulls up and syphons the oil out, anyone seeing it would assume its a delivery

Davy,a friend of mine had the same happen to him last year.he lived in leitrim(castlewellan).
he was distraught about it,a damn good tiler he is too!
there is some chancy oil delivery companies about,they know who has plenty in their oil tank !! you get my meaning? that friend of mine had oil delivered one week before it was took !!!!!!! no one would suspect anything if a legit oil lorry was pulled up outside your house but when an oil lorry is seen at a house twice in 2 weeks thats another story !! its happening a lot in N.Ireland unfortunately.
