Ian I agree. I specialise in kitchens & bathrooms, supplied and fitted - hence the name 'multi trade'. Maybe if I'd have called myself MBC kitchens and bathrooms, it wouldn't have got so many people's backs up? I am not a professional tiler however i have done fair bit of tiling. This is the ONLY floor I ever had problem with, although the only floor involving 6mm ply. I took a chance, and failed. I'll be putting it right, at my expense..

if i didn't multitrade..and i stuck to one trade i would have maybe 3 days work a week..as it stands i work 5-6 days a week..theres tiling and there's tiling...there are many tiling jobs i would not even entertain...but tiling a shower or a bath..or a kitchen with...say a std not to fancy tile..i will do it...which is the majority of my work...that doesn't make me a cowboy...if the customer is happy and you never have to go back for snagging..isn that considered job done ?..everyone has different stds..theres good tilers and bad... as in every trade.....

Fair comment Ian, but I charge people for tiling because that is what I do.......

but that's the point mate, you don't exceed your comfort zone, the problem is the wanabees that havnt got a clue what there doing...

Theres more diy'ers doing botch jobs than cowboys that are taking your trade away..with all the sheds selling the stuff to do it with as well..with fancy JML type videos and youtube saying how easy it is !!!!

Also i would had that some customers like the fact you can multitrade..one person coming in the house...not waiting for other trades..I quoted 5 jobs last week and got 4 of them...

basic errors have messed this job up, over boarding a wooden floor is a 15mm MINIMUM British standard and that is just the start.
the problem is unlike gas/electric your not going kill anyone by not following these basic standards.
until tiling is respected by builders/plumbers/diy property maintenance people, then this sort of thing is just gonna keep on happening time and time again.
i do work for a few builders and constantly trying to cut corners, but while my sign written van is outside it will not happen on my watch

a tiler is a tiler a plumber is a plumber a joiner is a joiner an electrician ,why can we not just stick to our own trades ,i do and i get sick of seeing otherwise ,i have had a peson on the phone 4 days on the trot asking me for advice because a plumber has tiled her bathroom walls and floor ,floor in mosaic, underfloor heating wire mosaic strait over it she sent me twenty pictures never seen as bad ,makes me sick and may get us all a bad name if customers think we all do it the same way ,my opinion ,stick to what you know if you cant do it dont do it

Sorry, no photos....

I have today been and taken up the tiles, UFH and 6mm ply. I noticed there was slight deflection in the floor so decided to remove the chipboard floor and replace with 25mm ply. The joists underneath are those 'I-beam' joists which comprise of two lengths of 3x2 CLS bridged with a vertical strip of 12mm OSB Sterling board.

I am going back tomorrow to nog between the joists where possible, and intend on boarding it with 25mm ply, before laying the UFH. I then intend on using a flexi SLC on top of UFH before tiling onto with Nicobond Rapid Flex ady.

Is there anything else I need to do to prevent me having to rip it all up again?
