odd-job
Hi All,
I am renovating an old Victorian money-pit, and am going to be fitting a shower room in an area of the basement where the floor has a concrete screed, and the waste outlet (on main drains - not pump) is also at floor level and cannot be sunk below.
This will mean a step up into the shower, rather than a level wet room which I am fine with, but to get this I have been thinking about the following options.
Option 1 - Normal raised shower tray (bit boring & prone to leaks)
Option 2 - Use Wet Room kit (Impey/Wedi/Lux/etc - seem expensive)
Option 3 - make my own….! by raising screed in shower area (approx 1380x800) by say 130mm and create a fall in the screed into a pre-set drain unit.
Has anybody on here made their own? Was it easy to get the correct falls? Did you just use sand/cement? Seems quite simple, but then I haven’t started yet!!
I would use some type of backer-board on the walls that will make up the new shower (onto mixture of studs and a thinner metal dry-lining system). Since this is still on the drawing board (beer mat). Should I raised the screed before the wall boards go on allowing them to sit on top.
Since this will then be concrete board to concrete with tiles over the top would it still need tanking? The tanking companies seem to advise "Tank it all" but then they would! I could seal the new concrete base with a good acrylic sealer, or could put additive into the screed mix.
Grateful for any thoughts or assistance with this!
