How do you self employed guys survive in this current climate? I started advetising for this 1st time 3 weeks ago and have had only 2 calls both came to nothing.I only tile part time so i still have a wage coming in, hope it's fairing better for the self employed chaps.

im going good, mostly from recommendations and pick up a few from my local tile shop.

I have an open door to go back offshore to the oilrigs, what i did in a previous life. I dont want to but if needs must I wont be stuck.

i still dont advertise other than on the side of my van, got jobs to do but thatsa purely through friends and neighbours etc i work par ttime aswell so that keeps me afloat tho i did have a call on friday, some guy said he saw me going up the motorway and got my number off the van, said he'd ring back but never did, fairly saure its because of the way i asnwered the phone (rather rudely) as i was having a stressful time and had previously had prank calls on my phone from witheld numbers (which is what he called me from) so my fault really, lesson learned. wanted 2 ceilings skimming and a sand and cement floor screed

I started out part time..........and stayed part time for 5 years. I got lucky and got in with a couple of builders until I got know to other trades and the like.

Just post some flyers to various builders. plumbers, kitchen fitters etc etc:yes:

ah yeah if i actually wanted to do some tiling id have my boots on and go out flyering the town straight away, if anything i want to take the tiling part off my van as id rather not do any than be paid to do tiling, i really do not like tiling but, im slowly starting to find each job less painfull so maybe ill someday enjoy it, ive given up too easily on too much and i dotn want to risk it again now

When i started out i had nothing for about a month apart from one qoute that i heard nothing more from despite the woman saying she was happy with the price etc, but then after the first job came in I have a steady stream now, infact for the first time im booking a month down the line.

In the last 2 weeks I've had 3 days work, But after alot of ringing about and leg work delivering leaflets.I'm now booked up until the end of november and still waiting on a few estimates..

has anyone got any info on leaflets deals? think the last time i looked into it they were about 5000 for £50? something like that!

try printcarrier.com they charge about £50 for 10,000 depending on weight of paper. thats for colour and both sides printed.
