How much work is out there?

Just want top know how easy/difficult you guys are finding it to get work in the current economic climate etc -

Myself - I did a tiling course a few months back and I'm just finishing doing up my house - Pretty soon I'm going to start advertising so I'm interested

Atm absolutely dead for me,the few enquiries i have had customer hadn't reckoned on the price for prepping ply,primer etc.

not tryin to put you off mate but a bad time start especially for a new tiler work for me has slowed down abit ive been busy mostly through out the year i wouldnt bother advertising yet domestic work is a bit low at the moment i suggest keep hold of your money and wait till it picks up

think it depends what area your in, for me work is up and down like a yo yo, and its the same for other tilers, plumbers and builders in my area...but I know others on here are flat out...

I don't think its ever a good time to start up unless you have a fair bit in the bank as it takes time to build up a reputation and get a lot of work coming in mate....

oh yea i totally understand you there, i am a engineer by trade working weekends so tiling is going to be a mon-fri ( i hope) thing if i make a go of it.

Every self employed person i speak too regardless of trade/profession..its always a yoyo game....if your the main bread winner then very good luck to you...myself i wouldnt be able to be self employed if it wasnt for my partner working too...the only way i no of staying steady if trying to get in with estate agents...but then its a totally different game where they just get the cheapest and dont always do whats best.....cheap quick fix's..when doing it right once would be cheaper in the long run....i can never understand them....landlords.

i am from the north west so not quite sure how busy it is around here, how do i get on to new build houses?

Thankfully you can't just walk onto a new build anymore! A certain amount of experience is required and certificates needed and Tax procedures to undertake, along with health and safety issues so without them forget it!
As for the original post - it may be tough if you are starting out but that's life! If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I'm in Lancashire and I have work booked in until end Oct and still getting solid leads.
I'd say 95% of my work is from recommendations though, and I don't advertise so I'm in a good position thankfully.
I'd really hate to be starting from scratch now though as I know a lot of guys -good, bad and ugly are struggling.

stoke? bit of a trek aint it mate? and without previous experience you wont learn how to tile in 3 weeks trust me.

i have search the internet and there is nothing in my local area, the place in Crewe is not running and STC don't do it in Warrington anymore also the same as PTS so not sure were to go?!
