Try not to use just your bare fingers whatever option you use. And when grouting, always use the sponge and not your fingers. You can chop up a sponge into triangles and smaller square for the tricky area's but don't use your finger all the time.

And remember a sponge has 6 sides! (often you find tilers never using the smaller ends but they'll be the cleanest after some use!).
