Try something like these: http://www.polyco.co.uk/industrial/displayproduct.asp?q=226&c=32

Loads of companies make them - very thin gloves, almost like a second skin. They have a thin coating of Polyurethane (PU) on the palm side and they get comfier and fit better the longer you wear them.

Try local safety shops or Arco - no more than £2 a pair normally.
I wear these for general handling.

For grouting, try NITRILE disposables rather than latex. Latex is often too weak, tearing easily and it is often powdered with corn starch which can irritate skin.

Personally I use these, and really recommend them: http://www.polyco.co.uk/industrial/displayproduct.asp?q=32&c=2
They are quite thick, but really soft, tough and comfy. Hands don't sweat either as they have a knitted liner. They can be bought at Sainsburys - called "Multitask".

Generally, your hands will get tougher with use - but ALWAYS wear gloves when grouting or you will definitely end up with dermatitis sooner or later!!!

... try NITRILE disposables rather than latex...

Correct. Nitrile covered gloves with CE quality are often recommended in the safty data sheets of cement based products for personal protection, same here in Germany. Martin:yes:

Bird's Eyes we call them down here sting like a bugger they do  But at least when the sore back and aching knees kick in that pain should distract from the finger soreness. WELCOME!!! to the Pro tiler Circuit my friend:thumbsup:

Ah bless, If you realy cant stand the pain.....and you cant work in gloves, and masking tape just tears you can always try finger tape, this is what we rock climbers use, good luck,

Try not to use just your bare fingers whatever option you use. And when grouting, always use the sponge and not your fingers. You can chop up a sponge into triangles and smaller square for the tricky area's but don't use your finger all the time.

And remember a sponge has 6 sides! (often you find tilers never using the smaller ends but they'll be the cleanest after some use!).
