CLAYS TILES

started a job on thursday, 35m2 of 600x 600 porcelain tile.
basically the whole downstairs on a new build.
the rooms arn't sq,the doors are on stupid angles,& to top it all they have fancy decor around the door frames,i had help from a fellow tiler, once we turned up & set out the floors we started measuring the cuts etc.
my m8 was doing the laying & i was passing the tiles, making up addy etc, to tell you the truth i felt like a spare part!!!
we done the dining room into kitchen so i started grouting out,m8 said your doing that wrong, wtf?? i'm doing swirling figure 8?? then he carried on telling me my washboy technic was wrong too,:mad2:took a few hours but we wrapped up about 6pm. this morning bright and early i started off hallway while m8 finishing off kitchen into cupboard, few hours past, thats when it started, breaking tiles, measurements not fitting as would liked, the customer not happy the tiles have slight gap around door frames, its ok i said grout will hide that! I dont think so she said do it again and make sure you don't see it! :mad2:
out comes the fein, zip zip,1st door bit tight squeeze but its in,took an hour to get it right (even took skirting off, better fit) why have you done that?? told her the reason, not happy bunny!:mad2: so called m8 now making jibes how he's laid all the tiles & i've done f**k all,i know he's done loads of the tiles which i'm really pleased on how quick he's been getting on,but now i just see red, told him not to bother coming tomorrow i would finish myself, msg to myself ''shut the f' up''!!! now i'm stressed, nothing going right still loads to do,the customer not happy, might be on own tomorrow & running tight on tiles!!:mad2: if he hadn't paid up front i would of walked away by now! I wish i could see a bright side to all this, but my glasses are full of dust off the grinder!!!!
right over to other door frame, zip zip,oh s***! the door frame now has a 2" gap:mad2::mad2::mad2: oh how i wish the world would open up & swallow me whole!!!

What is wrong with a "slight gap" around the doorway? if they are tight to the frame they are liable to pop off when the door is slammed and moves the frame.

Also, did your fellow tiler tell you WHY your washboy technique was wrong? I would love to hear what he said.

Apart from that. chill out mate. Tomorrow is another day.

Always the same when two tilers work together, I often work with another tiler. We fall out on some jobs then all forgotten ready to start a new job.

Chin up, and relax then the job will start to go better.

By the way we are doing 104 mtrs of 600x600 porc at the mo.

All the best

I've been stressing on a job all week Daz,f'in and blinding(customer not around).Had to be laid by Thursday night so other trades could get in today.I was moaning all week but gritted my teeth told myself to just get on with it and not moan in front of the customer.Today customer and other trades saying floor looks fantastic, customer saying I was a real proffesional.Gave me a warm glow inside.

I know sounds easy us saying it mate but it will work out, chin up some people have real problems.

What did that other guy say was proper washboy technique then?
figure 8! wot do you guys do???

What do you mean by "fancy decor around the door frames" When you say a "slight gap" what are we tallking about in mm`s ? its in a ''W'' shape so the gap seen would be in the 'W'
As for grouting, then as long as it gets the job done, its fine. Everyone has their own techniques.
