Lets all just do what Dan says and have a massiv jolly up with lager, mushrooms, strange leaves, and midgets.

CJ when the tents are all being ERRECTED i am defo in your one!! :)

I do have a habbit of sleep walking though and i sleep naked! :)

Oh....Ok, but as long as you leave your luminous mankini at home............and I'll superglue my sleeping bag zip.

I have a habit of dropping the most obnoxious odours at night by the way........naked or otherwise.

Now there's a thought.......If you fart with a mankini on..........would ya ar55e whistle.....:yikes:

Wivers.......I think some product testing is in order for that

I am multiskilled, I have to be, I do full bathroom installations and I cover everything, tiling, plastering, joinery and electrics and it's all top quality, as said above i'm not cheap because I pay a lot more in liability insurance for hot work and electrical.
Also theres the cost of being in a competant persons scheme and ongoing training and equipment i.e. 17th edition wiring, i also have an insurance backed warranty, I am undercut quite often by so called jack of all trades but they arn't always operating to the book as I do. As for my tiling I take pride in it as the rest of the work I do and I am always looking for new ideas to improve quality.

i'm glad i've read this post lately cause i'm pricing far more jobs than ever before and losing tons of them, have even lowered my prices to accomodate slightly but still too many are slipping away, was in my local trade shop the other day and found out they are signing up a dozen tilers a week, where the hell are they all coming from?

Eastern europe??

there's a good few of them with trade accounts in my local shop, don't think i would mind but they charge half the going rate, work for 12 hours a day so they can save there money and send it all home!:incazzato:

if i charged there prices i would struggle to make a living!

Lets not forget the tilers who have come off the sites working on a low wage and will charge very little to do jobs.....These are the guys under cutting the domestic prices....Foreign workers have been here for years and this under cutting has got worse since the sites started closing.....so look closer to home before pointing the finger...

that'll go a long way to explaining why my local trade shop is signing up 12 new traders a week and i'm being told my prices are too high(even on referralls)before xmas if i turned up to price a job on referral i never lost it,now with slightly lower prices i'm losing them!

There are a lot of tradesmen out there who claim to be multi-skilled.......but can't be pro skilled at everything........I for one prefer to have 1 skill do 1 job........and a lot of customers are the same.

There are a lot of handymen types out there, and there is no way they can all be qualified sparks, brickies, plumbers, tilers etc etc.

Ok.....maybe for an odd splashback and a sink and couple of sockets.......but no way for a full extension.

Just my views

It's in these dark days where your reputation on previous jobs counts for everything. The few jobs I have got booked in are all old customers. (Literally, this week I've had three 84 yr olds, ask for cash, just in case!)

Just in case you don't pay them........so you like the older women then.......nothing to be ashamed of.

Must be difficult to find 84 year old prossys :lol:

When quoting for work make lots of recommendations/suggestions. Preparing the walls or floors, what needs doing to leave a good job. Suggest some tilers may take shortcuts but your reputation is too important. If they need flexi addy explain that to them, what it is etc and that who ever does it should be using quality gear. Suggest improvements over their ideas or what leaves a nice trimmed edge/finish. Tell them you might not be the cheepest but the finish is worth it. I tell people what they can get a tiler for and if they want a £10 a m2 man i give them his number saying i dont recommend his work but your call.
I dont hear from half of them and when i do its generally along the lines of i wish i had went with you as the job is OKish. In other words a good reputation spreads slowly, a bad reputation spreads quickly.
Keep the standards up, chins up and the prices fair and we will all be OK

And yes I have in the past tiles for a tenner a m2 where a big floor was in good shape with big tiles. Ive also priced many jobs at 50m2 and made less money per day. I dont have a set price i tile for but as long as i make my bottom line, every job in its merrits. I suppose thats where the non pro tiler just doesnt see anything except the area to be tiled.
