Jobs ready...

I ve learned and worked in Austria before come to England so brought things with me what worked in cases and I trust. As I fit the preps in my price i rather go for safety and take time on the job. Never had issues but fixes lots of crap work also you can use on tile over tile will not come off. It's personal preference how one like it's work flow and the entire procedure.

But if the existing tile are fixed badly and not knowing the methods that are used a fibre mesh won't hold them up....

Correct. You re free to open some section and test it. If its bad obviously need to come off. But some cases you most likely want to avoid chisel off 1cm pieces half day covered in blood. In that case fibre mesh is great solution

Fibre mesh holds neighbouring sections secure so if your tile loose for example at some part the neighbouring are still hold it in place. It is extra safety for you.
I have done wet floor custom built by ply only only drainage fixed, used fibre over 2 layers with ardex kit tiled. Fully watertight. I rather use that, than tile on tray. This way I do my own slope and all layout is custom, no restrictions

I've bin considering laying it into self leveling to add strength and also could be staple down over underfloor heating to.hold the wires down

I ve used on floor has 15mm up and down movement on traffic. Still solid result after 4 years. Same on soundproof board about 10 mm up and down movement. Solid. On Wall, if you need to take tiles back you have to cut the mesh free otherwise you have to rip everything back off. It's rock solid result, I use in every single job. Plasterboard wall case you need to take tiles off you destroy the plasterboard 90% of the cases. This can do fast fix if the damaged area not too big. You can't tile on hole do you? But no need to change entire walls or sections. Can't live without it.
