After some tips on laying relatively sizeable tiles (300x600 upto the plank like tiles 900x150) in half bond/brick bond formation but keeping it perfectly flat between mixes.
I do the usual checks that they are able to lay in this formation (hold back to back and check for gap).
I always use rapid setting with varying flexibility depending on substrate.
I use Siri level clips for decent size tiles at all joins (each end of the the tile and each other join - 3 on both long sides). Expensive on the clipfront but I’m keen to get perfect finishes.
My problem is that I get the tiles laid within a particular mix of adhesive nice and level, but then il go and prep the next batch of tiles (cuts etc) and then mix up, but the second batch of tiles don’t quite mrry up to the first mix when I start laying them, but the adhesive has start to set so Siri clips won’t help and if you force it it would ruin the bond of the earlier tiles ? This problem is definitely worse when the floor isn’t particularly level. Or when using plank tiles (900x150)
I’m assuming maybe use a semi rapid or standard set adhesive to fix this problem? Because then te earlier tiles are still workable. Or also always use SLC when laying brck bond if the floor is crap?
But that wouldn’t fix where if I have a big room and can’t tile it all in one day and come back the next day and lay another batch - because all the other stuff will be set regardless of rapid, semi rapid or standard.
I’ve been self employed Tiling 3 years now so am relatively competent ... a lot to learn clearly... is it just I need more practise ?
Maybe the solution is tile in a certain order - complete full rows at a time rather than say a few at once.
I did a high gloss floor 300x600 recently and even tho the customer was happy, I could see in the window reflection it wasn’t 100 perfect and it drives me mad.
