Kids have it easy

I remember one of mates had his two lads about 9 and 6 off school due to having some typical infectious disease (maybe measles). As they didn't feel too bad they were filling their day with tv, playstation, internet etc. He was explaining to them when he was their age and off school ill he couldn't wait to get back as there was nothing to do as there wasn't even afternoon tv (remember the test card with the girl and the clown doll) and the only entertainment was reading. They really thought he was kidding them and their faces were a picture of disbelief.

I only have stepchildren and I was unpleasantly surprised that kids appear only to be interested in activities that cost money. Can't kick a football to save themselves but mention Universal in Florida and they're in ecstasy.

I haven't... I'm still rebelling!! :lol: I think I went smoothly from the teenage crisis to the midlife crisis, it's a talent... :lol:

Sandy, baby toys already are electronic wonders, honestly, I look at the toys of H's granddaughter, and it's press this and that and have read stories and songs and good night and counting in different languages and pretty flashing lights.. and she's 8 months old!! And for her birthday she is going to get a kiddies laptop... no kidding and being 'cleaned' every 5 minutes with an endless supply of chemical cocktail baby wipes... the mother even brought her microwave to sterilize the bottles!! :lol: not joking! Jeez...

I'm going to join the grumpy old men now! I hate all the noisy electronic kids toys and why do the batteries last so long??? I ask people to get our little one wooden toys (built to last aren't they!) and she has a few but doesn't seem that interested, ripping newspapers up and emptying cupboards is the 'in thing'!

Yes, something like that, oh and H volunteered that we buy it, for her 1st birthday... it's 'real educational' I am told... oh good grief... but with the microwave, honestly, young mum opens the carboot and brings out a microwave, I say, what did you bring that for, laughing, and she says, you don't have one, it's to sterilize her bottles! And took it home again. Have baby need microwave... a wonder how we have survived for so long, eh? :lol:

"electric tile cutter,pmmmmfffffffff,we used a hand tile saw,took you all day to tile around one socket,but its was blinking worth it"

"drylining,pmmmmffffffttttttt,when i was a lad it was either sand and cement or browning mixed in a bath with a rake,40 bags a day i used to mix,on me own,now NOW NOW,its all mixed with a wisk,and you still complain its hard work"
