I remember one of mates had his two lads about 9 and 6 off school due to having some typical infectious disease (maybe measles). As they didn't feel too bad they were filling their day with tv, playstation, internet etc. He was explaining to them when he was their age and off school ill he couldn't wait to get back as there was nothing to do as there wasn't even afternoon tv (remember the test card with the girl and the clown doll) and the only entertainment was reading. They really thought he was kidding them and their faces were a picture of disbelief.
I only have stepchildren and I was unpleasantly surprised that kids appear only to be interested in activities that cost money. Can't kick a football to save themselves but mention Universal in Florida and they're in ecstasy.
