Assault on 10-year-old girl at Windmill Hill
20 September 2010
Police are investigating an assault on a 10-year-old girl from Herstmonceux, East Sussex, at around 6.40pm on Saturday 18 September.
The girl was cycling on Windmill Hill when a car pulled up beside her. The male passenger wound down the window, grabbed the girl's wrist and told her to get in the car. The girl pulled away and cycled home.
A police spokesman said: "We don't know what the man's intentions were, but we are taking his actions seriously and are doing all we can to trace him and the driver. If they thought they were joking around, they've left a young girl very upset and I urge them to come forward so that they can explain their actions.
"The 10-year-old, who was shaken by the ordeal, was very brave and did the right thing by reporting the incident to us. We have conducted an extensive search of the area and are continuing to make enquiries.
"We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recognise the men or the car, or has any information to contact us."
The small car was described as cyan blue, index of S or 5, dirty and scratched with a roof rack and black seats. The passenger is described as around 30, with straggly blond/brown hair, olive skin, stubble, wearing knee-high boots with buckles, black trousers and a black zipped hoody.
The male driver is described as having long hair and wearing a turquoise jumper with white buttons.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1408 of 18/9 or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
