If you are on price surely you must earn more than £80 per day,so whats so strange on earning £180 per day on day work thats for ten hours,I do not like day work as I know that I can earn much more on price. To me £10 an hour on the cards is an insult to a tradesman I wonder how much they expect you to do in a day,I also worked in London three years ago on day work and I was getting £25 per hour I was on 14 hour days, but I hated the job but stuck with it because the money was good.In my opinion you are out to get the most you can,and me for one would not get out of bed for £10 an hour I was on them rates in the 80s,that's labourer's money

Jesus afright, how many friggin times, now im having a go.

Read jonnys comment, read my comment, in fact balls to it , i aint arsed.
If someone (like you) can earn nigh on £50 grand a year cards in + van ect ect i say well done , stand up and give a bow
Good day

it is quite difficult to work out what is fair pay and difference between an employee and a subcontractor who have their own costs.
If i pay one my experienced employees £ 160.00 per day before tax he would take home £ 600.00 per week.
when you add in the 30 days paid holidays and say 8 days sick paid then employee earns
£ 190 .00 per day gross for the days they work .
also has company van petrol paid, phone etcc
He actually needs to earn me £ 238.00 per day by the time i have paid tax his N.I/plus employer insurance /holidays sickness and a quarter contribution to company overheads before i earn my first penny every day of the week regardless of delays, bad debts etcc.
It all adds up to a lot of money.
a subcontractor who has all his ownoverheads would certainly need to charge £ 180.00 per ona day rate

Im lucky to get £180 a day for 1 and a half lads up here, think i may move down south, then again my 4 bed house which cost me 60 grand (15 y ago)would be nigh on half a mill down south, so swings and roundsbouts

There,s no way I earn the amount you are saying I am not on the cards I am a sub contractor as you have said its swings and roundabouts, some days I maybe doing a small job then others days I could earn bundles there's days when I have no work its very hit and miss down here my original comment was that tradesman on that firm do get £15 an hour on the cards because I have seen there wage slips of which I am not one of them.Maybe the going rate is different up your way but if some one offered me £10 an hour on the the cards or subbing I would rather sit on my backside.I do not employ anybody I solely work on my own and would not want the worry of employing some one.

It is. And it's probably one of the wealthiest areas on the country. But on the income scale, I'm a low earner. The more established tilers/bathroom fitters wouldn't get out of bed for this though. The hardest thing for you will be finding a decent tiler. There are so many terrible tilers out there, who think they're the nuts!?! But then, a lot depends on your standards too.

Flipping hell some of you need to calm down a bit, all this talk about money and what people would work for and those of you who wouldnt get out of bed for £xx amount. If you wouldnt work for under a certain amount of money and you have plenty of work on fair dues to you. For those of you who havent got a lot of work on, my advice would be take the offer or sit at home on your arse and watch daytime tv. The truth of the matter is some people like to be on the cards, because it gives them security, they get paid holidays, sick pay and the whole rest of the bundle. The cost to the company concerned is astronomical, because of the contributions as a company they have to make.
I have said this before and I will say it again, London is not the land of milk and honey that some people for whatever reason believe it to be. Yes there are some great contracts but there is also an abundance of crap projects with crap rates. Might I add this is not down the the tiling contractor, its dictated by the main contractor, who have gone in at a low rate in the hope they will in turn claw the profit back on the extras which mainly come through the M&E packages, not the stone and tiling packages, they make very little on that front. My motto is you pay peanuts you get monkeys, I have to ensure that I am getting the best possible rates for the lads, if we are busy then I will walk away from what could be a potential loss making contract and I can normally tell the good from the bad. If we are quiet I will take a reduced rate, so nothing is ever set in stone.

I don't think the poster was asking what we would all get out of bed for. In answer to the question, £10-13 an hour is the going rate for a Tiler anywhere up here, Lincoln included.

A quick search on the jobsite, and they are all around that rate - however, most of the advertised jobs are for contractors doing social housing - which is a bit different to doing domestic bathrooms.

If Lincoln was a bit closer I would've been contacting him myself...
