:oops:........:lol::lol::lol:

Done. I bought a grout rake today funnily enough, but my b/f used his trowel instead.

Right, where the mosaics meet the shelf:

I only silicone the bottom bit of the mosaics above the sink yes? (ie. the vertical bit on the shelf) ,or the top as well?

Tiles next door to door frame - silicone sealant yes?

Tiles on each edge of window sill - silicone sealant?

Lucky I bought more sealant today as well eh?

oh, and will I be able to have a bath tomorrow or do I have to wait for this to dry thoroughly? I assume I have to half-fill the bath again and wait for sealant to dry again before bath can be used?

All correct but you have to wait 7 days to have a bath...

Excellent. I had one already today. I refuse to have two in the same month.

:incazzato:

Oh, and another thing.

One of my horizontal triangles is slightly erm.... you can't swear on this forum can you? Well it's totally screwed up. I originally had a rough edge of a triangle meeting the bath and realised that shouldn't be done, so took it off and started again, so I could put the smooth edge along the bath. However, because of the angle, it wouldn't work as tile wasn't big enough - by a couple of centimetres. I cut a tiny triangle out to fit on the end of the main triangle, which, to be frank, looks absolutely crap. Should I just remove it and put sealant there instead? My horizontal surfaces just didn't work out for me at all. :mad2:

Hi Minnie, rule of thumb, where a tile meets another surface creating an internal angle, use silicone.

Edit: must type faster :D

I have a wall, that maybe I should have tiled, or put tile trim on but forgot.

This wall where the level is resting. Round the other side is tiled, and I'd already put mosaics on so it was too late to put tile trim on and as the tiles are all totally a mess on the edge going down as I was having trouble working round the sink, it looks a mess on the edge. I've just grouted over that mess.

I bet you're going to tell me I should have put sealant?

It's not an internal wall though, so nothing's going to move if there's an earthquake is it?

ah, modem's dying again. At least it lasted 'til near the end of the job

rake it out sorry all internals and were it meets diff surfaces (vanity glass pipes ect):8:

Really?

I can't put sealant over it?

no it needs to be able to expand and contract grout will not do this must be silicone:8:

This is an interesting debate, as i know a few guys that do site work and they always grout the internals and silicone over the top. The Mastic Man i know insists on it, as you get a better finish with the Silicone (although it clearly isn't doing its job!?!?!). This is on residential properties; the only time they leave proper expansion gaps is on large commercial jobs.

I always leave the grout out of internals and where the floor meets the walls in order to silicone. Anyone who silicones over grout is making a mistake and needs to do it properly. It is asking for future problems with expansion issues etc. The whole point of not grouting these areas is so that the silicone is pushed into the joint to gain purchase on the tiles, its not just for cosmetic reasons.

If thats your first attempt at tiling Minnie then you should be proud of yourself. You came on here and asked loads of questions, you persevered and kept going ( to the pub ) :8:
but it looks like all your questions and tenacity paid off. I have seen many bathrooms tiled by so called "professionals" far far worse than yours. You deserve a round of applause Girly, well done!

Yeah, but you haven't seen all the er, balls-ups which I've not taken photos of , and I'm sure if I zoomed in a bit, you'd be able to pick it to pieces, but still, yeah, considering the job that was there, and considering there's around 14 different surfaces/angles, I think I'm happy enough. I know there are areas that when I'm sitting in the bath, I'm going to curse myself for not re-doing them, but hey ho

Will post up photos of before and after later. Haven't started sealing yet, b/f's just made me another cup of tea. Very hard to get any work done when you have to keep going to pub and b/f keeps making tea

hey Minnie

Just seen your last photo. It's looking very good  Almost finished now?

Just attepting to do the seal but making a right pig's ear of it. :mad2:
Have now put masking tape on the edges in the hope that it doesn't stick underneath the silicon. I know you told me about that tape, but I never got round to getting it. Wondering how long I should leave the masking tape up before attempting to rip it off.

It will probably pull the silicone off Minnie if you leave it too long, try and cut a small angled hole in the nozzle, this will give you a thinner line which is easier to work with, Try the washing up liquid approach, it will help you loads. Just have a practice first.

already did the washing up liquid approach, but I was using a bigger nozzle (the remains from when I sealed bath to wall) and I was doing the window sill. Because I'm too scared to stand on my horizontal tiles in case they crack, I was working at an awkward angle.

Anyway, put masking tape on other joins and making less of a hash of it. Have spent the last half hour trying to remove the sealant from the window sill area. It's a total mess.
