Hello guys - just got back from my Mapei Training day (today).

What I loved:
- The factory tour is in istself worth the effort to go to Halesowen, 2 men and a mechanic producing 4 million bags of addy an hour :lol:
- The lunch was produced by one of those trendy "directors buffet" type caterers - delicious if you are into haute cuisine or into haute baconroll.
- The tutor actually taught me how to properly mix and use Mapei grout (including epoxy).
- I was interested in using more Mapei products - I can now selct the right replacements for my building addy lineup.
- Mapei's SLC has to be the best I have seen for tilers.
- Who else produces 26 different coloured grouts and silicones?
- Free goody bag included a trick tape measure (compartment holds drill screw bits and mini pencil!) and 2 T-shirts.
- I got to meet the Mapei Groupie - some guy shuffling around humming Purple Haze, spreading Mapei Adselix P9 on his sarnies, answers to the name of Dean.....

What I did not like:
- training is free so 6 other attendees were unable to attend.
- All free T-shirts are XL - trying to tell us all tilers are fat?
- could not blag a free sample tray of Mapei Grouts (such a cool sample tray to show customers)
- Mapei now produce Glitter Grout. OK it is a best seller but do we really have to cater to the tastes of frustrated 10 year old girls?

So to sum up guys and gals - a really great day out, a remarkable learning day, see some tiling sights you would not otherwise see, but please - if you book it - turn up.

yes the non shows annoy me too.
t Shirts fit me fine and I aint fat
Grout trays are like gold dust...glad I have 4 of them.
Actually ardex/ Kerakoll do a wide range of grout colours but not sure about silicon . The grouts are not as good IMO
Glitter grout is a supply and demand item. Cant blame Mapei for meeting the demand.
Most importantly who else gives you days like this FOC ?

Well done Mapei...again.

Sound like a good day spent. Would love to go later this year if I can find the time, as for the Mapie sample trays you can print this one off if you like.

i blagged a glitter tray,:drool5: oh yes oh yes

Oh Kilty - using blag, Glitter and drooling in the same sentence - Leader of my gang? :yikes:

On the other hand its a good way of impressing the lady customers - my sister in law is the Queen of Bling and she has Glitter Red porcelain tiles (at £370 psm :lol:) you would think that at 59 she would know better than to go for glitter!!

If they promised me one of those sample trays, then I would be knocking on their door tomorrow. Been nagging my local shop & asked the rep months ago and still nothing. Rare as rocking horse dung they are. Hope the R&D team are already listening.

If the sample trays were more readily available to fixers like us, I'm sure we could pursuade more of our/their customers to buy their stuff. Why is it only shops that get them? After all, we are the one's on the front line so to speak.

Rant over, and being serious now. I will be checking my diary to see when I can attend. Brum isn't that far for me, so will definately sort something out.

i was just wondering how long it takes for mapei to get back to you about the training days. i've sent a couple of emails, and a pm to suzie here, but haven't heard anything back yet. not being pushy or anything, as i realise they're probably really busy, but was hoping someone here may be able to let me know how long it takes for them to get back to you. i was really hoping to go to one, but i'm a bit worried that i've slipped through the net so to speak. cheers.

I understand your feelings -I had the same deathly silence, then the week before the course a flurry of emails to arrange the course! Suzee apologised saying she had been off work recently. I also think it depends on how many people express an interest in each training day. The company keep their prices down by using as few employees as possible, and as much automation as possible. That means that only Suzee arranges the Training.

Hang in there - its worth the wait.
