I can understand the fast track floor application reason the stone reason you could seal the sides before hand so not a big call for fast setting grout really! Alot of manufacturers are making fast setting grouts now and charging extra for it anyway thats my arguement etc etc!

The reason they are charging more is because they are not using portland cement as the setting agent....and using chemicals or wot ever they use( not a chemist) . so this bumps the price up......as you say this there chance to up the price...just like BAL mocro colour range...about twice the price of the normal grouts ..FFS.......

Not true. With mapi grouts you need to knock it up quite wet but it will set in the joint almost immediately but you can still wash of 30 minuets later

I,m stuck in my ways with BAl as well Cj....but have had some jobs that have dried patchy as of late( super flex range ).....so have been looking into mapei grouts as they are virtually efflorescence free and the BAl micro colour is a fortune....
its funny you say that dave , i found the same and have kinda went off bal grouts , i like mapei and pci grout , webers good too, dont like mapeis keracolor ff white though , is very grainy looking when dry and looks rough.. oh and regarding fast track grouts, a pig to start with but once you get used to em its the biz , especially on glass and porc..

I have no probs with BAL's wall grouts andy...it's just certain suerflex wide joint floor grouts that i think BAL need to address.......

1: limestone
2: Anthracite ( black )
3: Grey

these are the only ones that i have noticed......the limestone is the worst.....

dave , your right , wall no problems is was the super flex grey floor grout , nowhere near as bad as the granfixs flexi though...

I think all manufacturers need to be shifting towards efflorescence free grouts and not hiking the price up once they do......after all we are the fixers using there products and giving feedback.....

I have used BAL for years but will change if this continues to be the trend of there floor grouts......most others are now shifting towards the efflorescence free grouts as standard......i know BAL have the micro colour range , that is efflorescence free but like i have said it is a fortune to buy compared to mapei's range of efflorescence free grouts....

What do you lot think..?...do you think all grouts should be efflorescence free now.?..

We are stocking Mapei in our East Anglian branches, thats Norwich, Fakenham, Cambridge, Ipswich, Peterborough and Colchester.

I can't speak for the other regions though.

The Ultra Colour Plus is fantastic stuff but goes off very quick compared to the Keracolour. You have to mix it as per the instructions for best results.

We stock BAL also but then so does everyone...........

I have not been in the game long to have efflourescence problems Dave as you know but the last 3 floors I have done I have used Ultracolour plus in various colours. I have had no problems with it going off too quick and I have had great results with it. I will be sticking with it for floors when ever possible but I have real difficulty getting it at the moment and because of that it costs me a fortune to buy online!

(bal )i think the grout he was talking about might be the GG stuff,as i was using this last week and i was nt to impressed with working with it ,i was tiling a bathroom with it and was finding it hard to keep on the wall but apart from that no problems.

Just bumping some of the older popular (sometimes not so popular) threads. Probably wont be current discussion these days but I just need to do it. So just ignore the thread if it's not current for you.
