I've got the same thing, though I did write something which could possibly be classified as that. Bit annoying seeing it all the time though.

Even though it has your name on it, it is nothing strictly personal. It is just a notice to ask people of a certain membership level to place information regarding pricing and other "customer sensitive" information in the forums that are not visible to the general public, i.e. the forums arms in your case.

Although I can't see it as I have my own message, I believe everybody can see the same thing with their own user name.

I got the same................not even sure if or where I posted "said dodgy post" :whatchutalkingabout

i got the same message and to be fair i have talked about prices, i understand that prices should be kept descreet and what some people tilers charge is what the going rates are for their area ,sometimes friendly advice can be misconstrued and if thats happened i whole heartedly apologise i post replies to help out others and also to try and get some debate going
gary the tiler

There was no "dodgy post" directly CJ, it is a general message sent to all members of the forum of Professional status and upwards to try and keep things a wee bit discreet as appropriate.

It was nothing personal. I got the message too!

aye its ok to give out yellow cards ive no problem with that

but i would like to know the specific post that brought on the refs displeasure
oh and while I'm on my soap box
why give people the professional tiler tag when its blatantly obverse they have absolutely no idea how to do the job and have only completed a couple of weeks in some training school
it makes a mockery of the trade i served a seven year apprenticeship too
end of rant
i,ll get my coat

GrumpyGrouter has explained quite clearly why this message has appeared and i dont see a problem with it at all.
As for the tags, thats the way it is and always been for as long as i have known. When anyone who is starting out in tiling , maybe completed a course in tiling etc eventually gets his/her business cards or a sign written van. They are hardly likely to advertise as "Wall and Floor Tiling Newbie with limited experience" are they? They would have something like "Wall and Floor Tiling Specialist"
Its purely a Tag and hardly worth a discussion IMO

i got the same message and thought i had said something wrong so there is a problem with it if people think they have done something wrong

I saw the message and just took the notion that everyone had it, like a global message to certain user levels and nothing personal.

I also have the notice, it is a polite notice just for our reference, it makes sense to protect professional views from the public glare eg Mr Bloggs is a W****R etc....lol

The reason the Professional tag is given is to allow people to discuss tiling issues that they have problems with, with more experienced guys out of the public view. I.e. in the Forums Arms. Just because he has only been to a "2 week course" doesn't mean to say he is not a professional tiler. If that is the way he/she wants to make their living that is his/her choice. Whether their standards are adequate is entirely a different matter!

The reason that this forum has become so popular is because help and advice is freely available and given to ANYONE that needs it. As you seem to be a very experienced tiler and have gone through the old apprentice system, then you are the sort of person that these novices/newly "qualified"/less experienced people will be looking to for information.

Hopefully you will still pass on your experience to others. The Title Tags are there for specific reasons, as explained earlier.

I have the same notice. I took it as a 'memo' not to post sensitive info into the public domain, something that I quite agree with.
