Mixing the right amount

When you mix your grout how good are you at mixing the right amount for the area? Are you a dab hand at mixing the right amount or do you end up with half a bucket left! Or do you just mix a full bag regardless of the area to be grouted?

Always more cause it used to drive me up the wall when I had about 1m2 left to do & ran out.

I mix small amounts at a time that I know I can use before it goes off, I use Mapei Ultraplus usually and find it has a good pot life - certainly long enough for me to do several metres so I tend to mix enough that I think will cover about 3-4 metres, in fact, I could probably mix enough for another couple of metres as it's never going off when I come to the end of a batch.

I'm not sure if this is the right way but it suits me.

What is the pot life of Mapei grout?

i mix large amounts as i usually have a lot of mosaic (even more grouting ) to do ,i have the experience to know how much i'am going to use in each batch & where it will take me after 38 years lol.......

after 30 years i can pretty much get it spot on, breaks me heart to mix up to much and waste it, must have some scottish blood in me somewhere...lol

I'm usually pretty good at guestimating addy and grout mixes - often get it bang on.
Always getting it wrong with how many tubes of Silicon I will need though!

If BAL white etc then i mix what i require.. pretty good at guessing amounts but if Mapei ultra colour then it is a bag at a time.

I'm usually rubbish. I was always that apprentice that mixed a full bag just for 2 or 3 tiles and 11 years later I'm still doing it
