More questions than answers {diy related}

Hello all thanks for the welcome.

Any help or advice you are able to give will be very much appreciated.
I am currently getting ready to tile my hallway.
I have had 3 tilers come round 2 never rang with the quote and the third quoted £950.Which to me seemed a tad on the high side and something i simply cannot afford this moment in time.After some research on here i can probably understand why,because of the pattern which is diamond with border.As i am trying to create a victorian look.Red and black.

My questions are as follows.
The tiles are wooliscroft reversible quarry, anti slip one side smooth on the other,also fully vitrified.150x150mm

What tile cutter should i use for these, Rubi Star 60N Plus or plasplugs master tiler,both within my budget.

Adhesive locally i can get Bal,Granfix,Evostick or Unibond what would you recommend{concrete floor sound and level}
Should i prime the floor.

1mm or 2mm spacing
The 10mm trowel should the notch be 10mm high by 10mm wide.

Sould i lay the border first or the centre tiles.Do i need an expansion joint between the skirting and border.

Any other tools that you can think of.

Hope you can understand the drawing.The dogleg is really that shape it widens out at the end.I am sure their are things i have forgotten so any input would be much appreciated.

sorry for the short reply as im rather too drunk to reply properly, but that shape floor with the diamond layout will take careful setting out, guessing the other guys werent up to the job hence why they didnt get back to you with their quote.judging by this post you sound like you will be tiling it yourself? good luck!

You havent put the width on the diagram but assuming it's 1m wide, 2 x 7.5m lenghts and 1 x 2m lenght thats 17m2. That's just short of 800 tiles without even taking into account all the cuts.

Alot of work there, £950 is reasonable, i would take the fact that 2 of the 3 tilers didnt quote as an indication of the difficulty, they either couldnt do it, or didnt want to.

No offence but if you want a quality job, save and pay the £950, you have to consider how much your going to pay for tiles, adhesives and other materials, if it goes wrong that money will have been wasted, sometimes its a false economy mate. Someone has their signature as something like "buy cheap buy twice", this is very true mate.
You wouldn't stick your £1500 tv on the wall with bluetack afterall.

I'd save up the £950 personally, but, if you decide to do it yourself then i wish you the best of luck and im sure people will advise you as best they can.

950 quid will seem cheap once you buy all the gear and then muck around trying to get a half decent job. Keep saving your pennies and get a pro into do it. The best advice you'll get all day long. So yes I'm with the others too on this.

Oli the dogleg is 7.5 and the rectangle 2 so it's 9.5m2 overall.

The guy who gave me the quote did the bathroom before we bought the house and that seemed a quality job.
Said it would take him two and a half days max.
But unfortunately it would take me months to save that kind of money.
I here what you are saying but sometimes needs must and all that.

save the money arfter you have brought everything then spent all your evenings and weekends tiling it and it will never look any thing like what you hoped it would

I though that the 7.5m2, was for each wall that the arrows were pointing to, not the total of the two walls stuck together. Diagrams eh :lol:
