Hi all. Im just about to tile a boarder with glass mosaic tiles in a bathroom and I am going to backscim them first then use a mosaic trowel to get a thin set before i apply them. Just wanted to know what you tilers do when you have put the mosaic on. Do you scrape the cement out of the joints so its good to grout or do you just wipe it smooth then grout . would appreciate your expertise.:mad2:

Hi Keith, firstly as you say backskim the tiles and use a 6mm trowel to comb the walls, use white flexi adhesive and grout.PLACE THE TILES ON THE WALL AND PAD THEM DOWN GENTLY TO THE WALL USING A GROUT FLOAT,THIS WILL ENSURE YOU DONT HAVE ADHESIVE SEEPING OUT THE JOINTS,good luck. Bri:8:

why you going to backskim them? if its because youneed to fetch them out to the same level as the rest of the tiles you can either use a cheap 6x6 behind them or make a little device with a bit of batten to fetch the adhesive to a sufficient level..hope it's a help...

tiles are glass m8,so you would see the outline of the adhesive lines at the back of the tiles when they areon the wall, but good advice about cutting the 6x6 and using as a packer.:8:

i make sure its a smooth continuous bed of adhesive if i've got to fetch the ad' out with the batten...

Thanks brian c. will do as you said, pad them down with a grout float. Your correct. the reason I am backscimming is not to bring the level out , but as the tiles are glass I dont want to see the cement lines.

I brought the level out originally with thin 4mm plain cheap tiles.

Used glass mosaics for borders a few times, never had to back skim them as they were a deep colour anyway and couldn't see through them.
