 good deed done for this month, got a call today off what sounded like a deff old lady asking for an estimate to tile her bathroom. on arrival i was met by the sweetest old lady i ve ever met, aged 86, she showed me the room in question which was a down stairs toilet and she told me that she wanted the corner sink to have a splash back ( 2 tiles thats all ) she explained she'd seen some "white bumpy tiles" and though they'd by "splended", she then continued to explain that she was saving her pension up to get it done. she also told me that she'd had 2 quotes already , 1 from a tiler saying she needed to have the whole bathroom done as it would look odd to just have a splash back ( what a complete , think he had just seen that she was very venerable old lady and decided to take the mick) and the other had quoted around the £100 mark. i told her that the job would only take about 30 min to do, as we were chatting she told me she enjoyed baking and offered me a freshly made scone and a cup of tea (very nice) she explained that her carer had questioned the estimate and gave her my number. Any way I had recently finished a bath room( pictures are in the gallery) and had some bumpy whites left over so i told mrs bates that due to her kindness id also return the favour and do the splash back for free ,her face was a picture, she was nearly crying she just kept saying " ill pay you " i said id settle for another scone and another brew. I explaind that i thought the estimates were a bit of a joke and i feared she end up getting ripped off and for someone who was saving there pension i felt really really sorry for her.
anyway thats my story a my good deed done for this month

That's was damn decent of you and I hope the scones and tea were good. I don't like to hear of any customer potentially being ripped off........

On the other hand... She may have been sharp as a tack and got you to kindly do her tiling for free.....(;0)

That IS a lovely thing to do, as to the sharp as a tack, well, if she was, she did it well, and deserves to be rewarded anyhow! Very nice to read :)

That entered my mind ....all the decorating, gardening, cleaning etc all done for free while she has tens of thousands under the mattress
