My poor old knees! Kneepad advice please

I use Dickies with inserts, but they can get a bit uncomfortable if wearing the pads all day. I'm thinking I might get one of those alpro mat things.

I'm still not conviced which way to go. I have fashioned some from some thick packaging foam I salvaged from an internet delivery carton. They are spongier than proper inserts and fill the pocket completely but still slip round. Maybe i need gaiters as suggested in a previous reply.

I appreciate that TT. My problem is that I do a lot of varied work and it's much easier to keep the inserts in rather than have to keep putting external pads on and off.

I might just spend some extra dosh on some good work pants like the Bosch ones above.

Rang machine mart on the way to site this morning, the only place I could think of that might carry knee pads. I asked the guy if they had inserts, 'yes' he said 'loads of different types'. Bingo I thought and spent an hour in traffic diverting to get some. They had one type, their own and it was tiny. The guy spoke to on the phone was no where to be found.

Anyway, I used the home made ones mentioned in an erlier post. They were a bit stiff so I cut slots in them across and vertically....PERFECT!

I'd love to know what you all think of this...I still use the knee pads I have from my skateboarding days!!

Wear them almost all day every day, as my knee's are pretty shot from all the skating and snowboarding I did in my 20's.


I'm going to be buying proper work pants/pads and new shoes in the next few days, so glad for the discussion.

Cool idea Dennis, do you wear the helmet too? :smilewinkgrin:

If you want an EXPERT opinion Dennis, get or make pads that totally fill the pocket. My pants have a line of stitching up either side which gives you the option to make them wider. I have taken the stitching out (ok the wife did it) and this gives them even better coverage.

Never wore a helmet on the skateboard, left it for the vert skaters......only did when snowboarding abroad, if big jumps or cliffs drops were involved!

I got them through Longhorns, not cheap at £50 a pair, but the last 2 pairs I had lasted well over two years and still have plenty of life left in them yet.

how much are them alpros going for ? my knees are cream crackerd ie broke !! off doing floors .
