Yes, same here, too, John and Doug, except I don't get the little red cross but a link - in the photo albums my albums show the pictures, the other members' pictures only show a link, I click on that and the line of photos appears.

In the thread - as above - the complete area of the relevant post (only) darkens and I have to hit the back button to get out of the thread altogether...
