It was the tile company that had suggested the sealer so we are going to let them put it on. But has anyone came across this before and if so has the sealer helped hide the hazy bits?

Put it this way! You have just moved house and one of your favourite cupboards you have had for years won't match because it's green. But it will really go if it's white. So you paint it with the first coat and when it dries it is obvious it needs a second coat because you can still see some green.

Would you accept it or would you give it a second coat? When you answer that question you will be able to make a decision on sealer covering haze because it won't

Got you! These guys are obviously trying everything rather than replace the whole 60 square metres. In addition we have glass screens and balustrade that have tiles all around them. Can you imagine the cost if while drilling the tiles up that the glass smashes!

I am just hoping some of these cleaner things helps. If not I will be gutted. My OH is talking about having to overlay but our levels will be out in our 3 bedrooms and bathrooms then! Yikes. It does not bear thinking about!

Hi all, my first post and I hope one of you guys can help. We have just had our Polished Porcelain tiles layed and there is a hazing over tiles that looks like a film of dust over parts ofthem. It is very noticeable in one area of my dining area as there is lighting streaming in it. I have taken one of the remaining tiles to the tile shop who have been very helpful. However, they have tried various products which have not taken this clouding/hazing off them. They have one more stronger solution to try (something like degradex) and they will let us know. However, my hubby reckons it is under the tile. If this does not work then they said they will send someone up from London to come and look at my house. Absolutely gutted. They are big 600 x 600 and it is over 60 meters! Any help would be grateful.

It is not about strength it is about the right approach and technique. All too often people have the solution they just don't have the right approach.

Take the example of you having your hands coated in olive oil and you wash them under cold water it takes some of the olive oil off but not the greasy residue but you had the right approach in the beginning using water. Now just change the water from cold to warm and add some some soap liquid and the oil comes straight off and leaves no greasiness.

The same approach has to be taken with your problem. Alkaline cleaners are not enough because they can't break down the polymers or waxes in the haze effectively. Try the following yourself before you let these monkees loose on it. Take a small area say around a 1m2 BUT MAKE SURE IT IS THE WORST AFFECTED AREA now apply Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover and allow it to dwell for 15 minutes keep it wet by agitating it with a white emulsifying pad then after the 15 minutes wipe it up with some paper towel and rinse with warm water. Now apply a diluted solution of Aqua Mix Phosphoric acid and do the same as you did with the sealer & coating remover let it dwell and agitate it and then wipe up with paper towel and rinse. Then finally use some Aqua Mix Heavy Duty Tile & Grout Cleaner and do the same leave it dwell agitate and wipe and rinse. A longish process but better and cleaner than ripping up 66M2 of tiles would you not agree. All these products are available from one of our sponsors of this forum Tradetiler.com Home or you can buy them all on E Bay.

Hi
I am afraid I can't offer you any solutions.
Polished porclein isakin to man made stone. whilst many of the technical imprefections of stone can be eliminated from proclein during the manufacturing process some inherent characteristices remain, and form part of the product. One of these characteristics os OPTICAL HAZING-a smoky effect visible on the surface when a light source reflects across it at a certain angle. Optical hazing is not something new, as it has occurred in the natural stone and marble industry for decades. It is worth noting optical hazing does not effect the technical aspect of the tile and as such is not considered a defect.
