Unless you have ample funds in the bank saved that you can rely on if you get little to no work as a tiler, then I wouldn't recommend jacking in the day job and hoping you'll get pleanty of tiling work in straight away after doing a tiling course.

Pleanty have tried and often find themselves needing to get a normal job again when things start getting tight, that's if you are planing on working for yourself.

You may find it a better idea to start advertising yourself once you feel you are ready for paying customers and get some jobs in on the weekends to get you upto speed first and start to gain some reputation.

Start small, aim big.

It all depends on your personal situation.

Welcome to the forums

Hi Carl, and welcome to the forums

Don't rush into the tiling game M8 by all means do the tiling course and see if you like tiling then try and get some part time work doing smaller jobs repairs and maintenence before chucking in your job. When you have more tiling jobs than you can cope with and the prospect of ongoing work then think about winding up in your other cereer.

Cheers Mick

Hi mate thanks,

I have some money in the bank but my dad who is already the owner of a few Sky TV Channels is goign to be setting the business up, getting the marketing materials out, the work order line in place, the van and tools sorted for me, but I am going to be doing this with a friend also as he is currently an assistant site manager and has a lot of contacts to obtain more work for us. So although I am not going to remain in my current job I will be looking to work on site doing other work if / when things are not busy (which I hope wont happen).
