newbie in a bit of bovver HELP!!!

good morning peeps, been a lurker on here to pick up some tips as i'm about to tile my kitchen floor. now found big problem. pulled carpet back, and the floor is black, as in some kind of shiney tar looking stuff. what to do? levelling compound, backerboard, wood??? any suggestions welcome (apart from buy another carpet, had that one off the wife) thanks in advance, Geoff

Look up adhesive manufacturers advice for tiling on bitumen is your best bet.

That is asphalt, prime with Bal APD neat, then tile with flexi adhesive and flexi grout....no problem.........Gaz
