I didn't mean any offense by my comment (just trying to syche you up really).
I know exactly were your coming from on wanting to do a good job and the cost involved if anything goes wrong. Plus this guy could be a nightmare for you if it did go pear shaped as no doubt your name would be mud around his area and that may affect your rep before you get going.
If it is just a case of your butt putting  on your first job then regardless of what it is your always going to feel that, but obviously the costs and risks could be greatly reduced.
Drop Daz a PM and have a chat with him. If you still feel uncertain I'd say walk away as it will just be on your mind and your confidence will drop and may affect the outcome.

Good luck pal, whichever way it goes.

Dev, honestly 100% no offence taken i really can't see how you think i would be offended, everyone who has posted including yourself as given excellent advice and support which is something i greatly appreciate,
all in all i think fate may play a hand in this as there is no way i'm tiling over the tiles that are already fixed to the wall so as we all know even if the tiles were removed tomorrow and he needed it re plastering there is going to be a 4 week wait anyway which hopefully would give me more time to gain that exta little bit knowledge and confidence, will definately keep you informed on whats happening, Thank Again Paul.:icon14:

Paul sh,
Thanks for putting this thread up.
Friday night i did an estimate for a full bathroom, A full shower room and a kitchen floor with a full splash back. The walls total 40sqms using porcelain tiles (18x12) and porcelain 12x12 flooring (Total area = about 15 sqms). Tanking is possibly wanted in the shower room with a splashback equivalent in the bathroom.
The problem i have is that i have'nt handled a tile bigger than an 10x10 for a floor on my training course (which i completed on friday 1st June)and this couple want bigger going up the walls.
The main thing in my favor, is that they cant get a tiler for another 5 weeks, but as their just starting out, they want to get the price down.
The house is going through a full re-developement and because i still work full time, i will have to do the work around my shifts, which they are happy for me to do.
I really dont want to lose the fantastic opportunity, because this will test every single thing i've been taught. but the last thing i need is to be putting in the cuts by the ceiling and have the whole thing crash into their brand new "P" shaped bath.
Having read the replies you have recieved, I'm wondering if i can possibly do this job, knowing that it will either make me or break me.
If anybody on this forum can help and advise, i would be extremely grateful.
Talk about- 2 buses coming along at the same time.
Regards
Alberttrotter.
PS.
I am in discussion with another tiler with reference to passing the job on (Hornchurch,Essex)

It sounds like quite a big job for you to be working around shifts but if the customer is happy for you to do that then great, go for it mate. The reason paul sh was concerned was because he had never fitted natural stone tiles, as these are slightly different to ceramics or unpolished porcelain. The size of tiles you have described are becoming more common in the domestic market nowadays. If you feel confident enough then this is too big an opportunity to pass up.

Albert, once again you have your training and you need to start to use it. No doubt you may be bricking it but this is an excellent opportunity du eto the couple being prepared to allow you to do the job slowly. You'll learn so much on this job and you always have us if the going gets tough. Don't pass on this as you will regret it and you may never get the chance to build your skills on the job like this again.
Take your time have confidence in yourself and I'm sure you'll deliver the goods. If you manage this just think of the possibilities for the future, not to mention the reccomend you'll get.

If worried that customer will think you are too slow, turn up and tell them youv'e pulled your back and are in pain, but don't want to let them down! might get lots of sympathy

Like i said to Paul. Sometimes it is worth going halfs with another more experienced tiler. You do not have to give the whole job away, just split it and act to the customer as if you have people who work for you. This way you finish the job in half the time and get shown by the other tiler exactly how it should be done. Just explain to the other tiler the situation before hand and i'm sure they will have no problems with it. This is a tried and tested method not just one of my crazy idea's :)
