only had my L200 2 weeks and written off!!

Just the panels Doug. Make sure you get a guarantee and keep it. Thats why I would always prefer them to right it off. I had a transit repaired by a top company once but it only lasted 2 years before showing marks of repair.

just my opinon doug and i know you must be hacked off with the situation but i would not be accepting what they are propsosing

you have bought a near new mint condition vehicle which has been trsshed at the rear end and they are panel beating it,filling it and re spraying one wing only?

imo thats not acceptable, look at it this way we all on here give advice day in day out how to do things properly so it lasts as long as poss and it doesnt matter idf it costs more as long as its done right

these guys are cutting every corner to get your vehicle fixed also a s cheap as poss mate and i think its well wrong u deserve better

I hear you Jamie, but they are working to a £5750.00 budget apparently, tbh I don't know how I stand legally as to wether I can demand new panels etc, but I just get a feeling that if they write it off I'll be down about 2 grand in finding one similar.I will ring them on monday tho'.

I wouldnt get too worried at this stage Doug, everything has to be belted out and back to its original position before you start cutting the damaged panels out to weld in the repair sections

doug
have they said that there is any damage to the chasis?? sometimes when a car has had an impact crash, they need to put it on the jig and realign the chassis....depending on how much needs to be realigned, depends on how much it effects its value. this info gets recorded on the cars accident history. the problem is, when you come to sell. it reduces the value of your car..if you are not happy, insist on a new/similar replacement vehicle..you dont want a car thats had more hits than beatles!!!

i bought gayle a bmw 328ci in oct 2002, she hit a metro and wrote the metro off and a corsa.. the bmw wasnt that badly damaged but the cost of repair/parts was over 5k. they did put it on a jig and it was recorded (i didnt know this at the time!!)...in came up on the hpi when i tried to sell it..luckily the guy wanted my car badly so he went to williams bmw in lpool, to verify the damage to the chasis was minimal..it did sell, but i didnt realise that the info went on the cars accident history, and i didnt realise it could devalue the car considerably??

just enquire on monday....dont let them fob you off. its a numbers game to insurance companies, this is your investment!!

I'm not to bothered about the re-sale value Ed, as this is more of a lifestyle vehicle than just a work bus, (I intend to keep it for at least 10 years). I just wanna have a nice looking yoot as long as I can:thumbsup:

I hadnt seen that they were repairing it Doug! I always said i wouldnt want a motor back that had been in a smack.

it's gonna be a compromise Scott, but, I can't afford it to be written off, this is where the insurance comps get you by the short and curlies unfortunately.

if your going to get your money out of it I wouldnt worry, just get it epaired and back

I was t-boned in a 2 yr old astra, I thought it was a write off , they didnt , when I got it back you couldnt see any evidence of the repair. it was never recorded as a write off but had been jigged and once straightened and repaired it went to vosa who checked the repair and declared the vehicle as good as it was before the accident, the accident was taken off the cars history and didnt come up on a hpi check when I traded it in

It isn't merely the body work, that is the obvious prang.
There is the frame which is most likely out of alignment and ought to be put on the frame alignment rack to be sure.
Then, even more importantly is the transmission and engine.
The rear end was driven into and all that kinetic energy was transmitted through the drive shaft and into the bearings and gears of the transmission and crankshaft which is never a good thing to do with any parts that turn and mesh as they are damaged even if one cannot see any damage.
I would insist on the transmission and the motor getting a thorough inspection and any issues sorted before signing off on anything as you cannot afford those parts being problematic.
