tbh, I'm just relieved I'll be getting it back. I paid 8K for it and there was no VAT, so I'd be looking for 10k in all probability to replace it. But, yes, I'm surprised that they're beating it rather than sticking a new panel on.

Doug, because of the build of vehicles now, sometimes it might not always be possible to replace the panel. it depends how where the panels are bolted together. I asked why they didn't replace the rear quarter panel on my Corsa and it was because almost the whole side of the vehicle was one panel. it's worth finding out where all the panel joins are.

when they did mine, they just resprayed the quarter panel and blended it with the rest of the side of the car. and they sprayed the bumper separately. so I reckon, to be cost effective, they'll just spray what needs spraying doug

Just the panels Doug. Make sure you get a guarantee and keep it. Thats why I would always prefer them to right it off. I had a transit repaired by a top company once but it only lasted 2 years before showing marks of repair.

you have bought a near new mint condition vehicle which has been trsshed at the rear end and they are panel beating it,filling it and re spraying one wing only?

imo thats not acceptable,look at it this way we all on here give advice day in day out how to do things properly so it lasts as long as poss and it doesnt matter idf it costs more as long as its done right

these guys are cutting every corner to get your vehicle fixed also a s cheap as poss mate and i think its well wrong u deserve better

I hear you Jamie, but they are working to a £5750.00 budget apparently, tbh I don't know how I stand legally as to wether I can demand new panels etc, but I just get a feeling that if they write it off I'll be down about 2 grand in finding one similar.I will ring them on monday tho'.

I wouldnt get too worried at this stage Doug, everything has to be belted out and back to its original position before you start cutting the damaged panels out to weld in the repair sections

have they said that there is any damage to the chasis?? sometimes when a car has had an impact crash, they need to put it on the jig and realign the chassis....depending on how much needs to be realigned, depends on how much it effects its value. this info gets recorded on the cars accident history. the problem is, when you come to sell. it reduces the value of your car..if you are not happy, insist on a new/similar replacement vehicle..you dont want a car thats had more hits than beatles!!!

i bought gayle a bmw 328ci in oct 2002, she hit a metro and wrote the metro off and a corsa.. the bmw wasnt that badly damaged but the cost of repair/parts was over 5k. they did put it on a jig and it was recorded (i didnt know this at the time!!)...in came up on the hpi when i tried to sell it..luckily the guy wanted my car badly so he went to williams bmw in lpool, to verify the damage to the chasis was minimal..it did sell, but i didnt realise that the info went on the cars accident history, and i didnt realise it could devalue the car considerably??

just enquire on monday....dont let them fob you off. its a numbers game to insurance companies, this is your investment!!
