Looking for a bit of advice on outsourcing work I dont have the experience to do.

I am not really fast enough to make any decent money doing large areas and there have been jobs I have turned down because my experience is lacking in certain areas and I would rather say no than do it wrong.

Im actually interested in outsourcing some jobs I get to quote on and wanted advice on using other tilers also I dont want to just lose business or hand it over without making something.

First thing I understand rules say that if you have done various jobs for the same company there are tax implications (classed as an employee NI etc) but how do the building companies do it? are the contractees paid directly by the client?

If I contact another tiler to do a job for me I guess im risking my company reputation if they are bad, but the risk is also that they try to under cut me too? or just be smart and say 'oh Ive already had a call on that job' and go and stick a card through their door. I assume I would be unlucky if that happened!.

What I basically want to have is maybe 4 or 5 guys I can go to for different types of tiling jobs who I know are reliable. I would quote the jobs and outsource to them providing them all the materials required. Paying a base rate and obviously taking a fee on top (i.e 10% of the profit or £2 psqm something like that).

Anyone doing this sort of work in their area? If its something you want to take off line then pm me and Ill send you my telephone no.

cheers

without trying to be cheeky, would it not maybe be worth learning to do the job competently yourself before you start sub-contracting work out, personally i think it would be hard for a tiler with x amount of years experience taking jobs from yourself with limited experience as lots of ideas and translation may be lost due to inexperience on your side, whereas it may be better if you get an experienced tiler to work with and try to learn as much about tiling as you can:thumbsup:

yes but you still take the risk, and if you pay them by the job they can still be self employed can make money but also a nightmare and if your not tax exempt you will be paying tax on it 😛ete

dont think you will make a quick buck for all the running around and tbh at the moment dont think that there is enough work about to do what you want to do.I would take Davy's advice and learn how to do a job properly first.Think you might be reaching for the stars a bit early m8.

due to your lack of experience, how would you know the tilers weren't taking you for a ride, get the jobs under your own belt first imo

Ok let me clarify ... what I mean is commercial installations... Ive turned down jobs because I dont have the pace to make any decent money out of them and I dont really want to work on site ... I have had guys call me up looking for work... I could be a really nice guy and pass on the details of the commercial work to them ..or I could put my business head on and contract out to them and earn small for my business (its a business I am in the process of creating not just trying to make a quick buck out of others as a sole tiler, and like all of you at the end of the day got bills to pay and Im no charity).....

Do all of you lay victorian tiling and swimming pools ?

and if they muck up you could lose your house belive me so you have to make sure they are good and if you find one let me know i have been looking for twenty years and aint found one yet lol 😛ete
