Plaster query

Just on with a bathroom at the moment. Removed all the tiles that came of really easily. And the plaster underneath is grey. I've never seen this before. I'm guessing its fine to tile once preped correctly.

A number of years ago some of the gypsum plasters were grey, a few pics might help.

That's what it will be then. I'm guessing its fine to tile to?

It could also be sand/cement render which had a finish called siraphite troweled onto it which again was also grey or pink...depending where the gypsum was mined.

Most of the time it will be sand and cement but every now and then Gypsum bonding coat (which is designed for low suction surfaces) is grey so it could be that.

Sounds like Grey Gypsum finish, probably find Grey Gypsum bonding coat underneath.

Could be browning, bonding , carlite finish, board finish or sand cement, pics would be helpful

Is it smooth like skim ?
