Hi

Newbie here, my first thread. Advice please.

I've just had a new extension built with a sand/cement concrete screed to finish. Pretty level hopefully! I want to lay 50sq mts of 60 x 60 polished porcelaine floor tiles.

Do I need to latex screed first to get it really really level?

I'm going to seal the tiles before and after grouting, which Lithofin do you recommend - Stain stop ?? How many litres to do this area.

What tile adhesive would you recomend for this area.

Can you recommend a good porcelaine tile cutter for an amateur.

many thanks

To seal porcelain using lithofin products .. you use this one...

FZ Protective Impregnator - 1L
For fully vitrified ceramic and porcelain tiles. Ready-to-use special impregnation fluid with special oil and grease repellent additives. Lithofin FZ Protective Impregnator creates an oil and water repellent zone, and is especially effective on low absorbancy surfaces. This helps reduce sensitivity to staining and makes stains easier to remove. Surfaces protected with this treatment are less sensitive to dirt and easier to maintain.

Im just laying a polished black porcelain floor for a friend, using 400 x 400's, using Bal Goldstar cement based adhesive because it has porcelbond init to suit laying porcelain.
Then I'll be sealing them with Fila polished porcelain Imperg sealer once Im done, also using a flext wide joint grout, because normal grout dosen't grip to porcelain too well.

As for the level of the floor, since you need to use a 10mm notched trowel, the lines on adhesive are going to be 10mm deep, so that will give you some play with leveling them.
Use a 6ft spirit level or similar and check the level, if you only have say 4 or 5mm difference in places then the adhesive bed of 10mm will be ok to keep a decent level lay.

Hope this helps somewhat 🙂

As for a cutter, I use a Husqvarna TC670 £125, not exactly DIY equipment, and im not sure what the budget cytters are like for cutting porcelain.

HI

Thats really helpful thanks. Do you think i need an additional latex screed over the existing pretty level sand/cement screed or do you think that I can level them with just the adhesive?

as long as there are no dips / humps exceeding 3mm then you will be ok to tile..prime first....if you do need to level .. i use ardex K15 on concrete floors ... no need to use latex one....make sure your adhesive is suitable for porcelain tiles....and grout with a flexi grout....make sure you get a solid bed with your sticky.....good luck mate........let us know how you get on......
