Went to price a job last week in Harrogate which was 42m of trav onto a new extension floor.concrete base, flat no real issues. Quoted £900 labour as the guy who was overlooking the project would be supplying materials.Just over £21/m is surely reasonable for travertine(wetcutting, sealing etc)? Anyway,a follow up call revealed we were by far the dearest quote. He told me someone had quoted £300. £7/m Now has it really come to this when people are prepared to do natural stone for £7/m. I bluntly told him hed be lucky to get a poor ceramic tiler for that.

That is insane! Who on earth would want to work for that money? And more to the point what is the finished job going to look like!!!!!

Quite surprised at that for Harrogate.. normally you get very good rates there.. well i do anyway and just have on a job i finished last week there..

Harrogate is a very rich city imo... Leave them to it i say.. even 21 mtr is way to cheap IMO..

Mentioned dural decoupling, expansion joints, finish of sealer etc.Basically he was project managing and just taking the Removed on his head be it.Hope he takes the £300 offer and they Removed it up.Thought the same myself Dave about Harrogate.Quite well off round there £21/m was low but thought we could undercut locals with that and still make a wage.To be fair,2 of us would have easily nailed that in a week and id have been been happy with £450 for it.

Gunna have to start negoiating a rough price/m for these jobs by phone prior to visiting. It was the other side of Yorkshire.Different county.day wasted, diesel and time wasted

cant quite belive it, surely a project manager has more sense than to go with that price!

if things are tight over there then the builders always have the option to undercut everyone same happens here when things get slack (normally comes back and bites them)

utter madness!! tell the project manager to have a look on here as regards all the work that goes into fixing natural stone. Maybe then he'll realise that your price was far more realistic (but still cheap imo).

I would Probably take this with a pinch of salt, as customers and project managers say ridiculous things like this all the time.
I was told recently that my price was seventy percent dearer than the next quote to mine..... They still contacted me a few weeks later asking me to book them in.

My mate priced 100 m2 of trav.concete floor quite bad.customer supply all the materials.£30 a sq.m.Boy told him gtf (that is what he really said) he has "tiler" doin it for £ 18.Good luck to him.:yikes::yikes:
