For any job, it's always worth while saying in general a job like this will consume x amount of materials, but no two jobs are ever exactly the same, so theres always a chance you might need a little more of this or that.

Never had anyone complain with this and it covers you too.

In the price you have said do i charge for materials the retail price or the price that i pay. I have a trade account with topps tiles and i was going to use the bal range of materials for this job and i know they are pretty expensive. So if i charge say £600 plus materials i would then either charge trade price or retail price for the gear, this is where i get confused on pricing jobs up. Thanks

If you are getting a "trade discount" for your supplies, this gives you the opportunity to make a margin on their supply to your customer. How much you put on top is up to you but bear in mind that the higher the margin to the customer the more expensive the work is to the customer and you may not get the job if some one gives a cheaper estimate.

You should AT LEAST charge the trade price PLUS a bit more for your time to source supplies and to go and pick them up.

What you charge for the materials is up to you. If you are happy just to supply the materials you want for no extra cost, then so be it, it hasn't cost you anything and you're still going to earn money from the job.

Personally i would get a price for retail, then the trade price, find the difference, and pass on 50% of this to the customer. Normally, they are happy and you're getting money simply for supplying.

IE Retail price for everything is 150, trade price is 100, difference is 50, you charge customer 125. Hope that makes sense. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
