hi

just been out done a quote for a bathroom, 15m2 walls with ceramic tiles, and a 2m2 floor with black polished granite, he's got all the materials, just wondering roughly wat you guys would charge. just wondering if im along the right lines.

any help would be appreciated.

cheers

John

Again it all depend's on the tile's and how much cutting is involved, The wall tile's could be 100 x 100 mm, Larger one's are easier, Is the floor screed or board;s work m2 then round of to how many day's.

I would say that price was quite competetive Tom. I would have been looking around £350 for the tiling plus materials so would have come in at higher than £396. Would have been nearer £450

Thanks for that tilestile I came away thinking had I done my maths wrong. Have a pie for me.

No I don't think your excesive and another thing is that I never give a price there and then there's allway's something I miss I like to go home and take everything into consideration.

I take your point Whitebeam. The trouble is you get an indication from the potential customer if they expect the quote done there and then which in this instance was the case. I already know the price per bag of floor adi both one part and 2 part and also know the amount needed and grout prices. I felt that I was going too get the job there and then as I had priced down the bathroom floor and was surprised when the atmosphere went from a pleasant laid back one to silence. This is what has made me question the price.

Believe me mate many a time customer's have said any idea of the price (That's on the phone as well) we won't hold you to it, they do.

Alot of these customers we have are only earning £50-£60 a day and don't realise were not willing to work for this, they also have no idea how much work is involved.

I'm constantly surprized by some people who I think are going to bawk at my price but say its fine and the ones who look like they've got plenty of money and think I'm having a laugh.
You only have to watch Property Ladder to see alot of Joe Public think they can get a house completely remodeled for £15000 and in 2 months when Sarah Beeny says it'll take double the budget and timescale, you all know what the outcome is.

How many times have people asked if you can start tomorrow, they have no clue!

As you get more experienced you will have a better idea of how long certain jobs are likely to take you. Small awkward jobs can be very time consuming. If this is the case then I will quote the job for my time ie, daily rate. I would only revert to quoting meterage rates for large areas ie, showroom floors, swimming pools, shopping malls (contract work). Hope this helps!
