Quick Q about plying out floors

When doing a bathroom floor and you ply out with either plywood, or now as it seems to becoming popular, 6mm backerboard, flexi adhesive then screwed.

Question is, would you remove toilet and basin etc when plying out and tile, or would you just ply around them, as Im not quite sure how they would look if the floor around them gets raised say 7mm or so ?

I know really the best way is to remove everything then ply then tile then fit back in toilet and basin, but if the customers just paid a plumber a fortune to fit a new suit, then mr tilers comes along and says he needs it all out again, I can see the customer thinking "oh my god"

So the real question I suppose is, would the bathroom suit still look right with 6mm backer board cut around them on the floor then tiled on top.

Personally would stress the importance of having them lifted. If they have a problem in the future and you have ply-ed and tiled around them it would be a nightmare for repairs.

Grumpy

I posted a similar question mate and the resounding answer was to lift and tile underneath.

As in the advice I got from my fellow learned tilers on here, make sure you get 100% coverage underneath.

One tiler said carry a load of Flexi pipes with you, get them in bulk.

I myself had a job and the customer was happy to get a plumber in to connect the pipe back on the loo. (took 3 days to get the plumber out like lol hope they didnt clog up ha ha.) teh difference being about 6 mm

I am competent at plumbing but the job I had I had gone in to re-tile after a pipefitter mate of the customer had fitted the bathroom anfd tiled the walls and floors. He had laid 6mm chipboard down and laid the floor tiles down with wall adhesive!!! Needless to say they came up.

That was the reason I didnt want to touch the plumbing. The old thought of if anything had went wrong with the plumbing me being the last one to do anything with it would have come back to me.
imm waiting for them to ring me when hs wall tiles come off but thats another story

if the suite has just been fitted a good plumber would have put service valves on each pipe and put flexi pipes on the the taps and toilet this should make it easy for you to remove them just turn the valves or with a screwdriver and disconect ( buy a siphon pump for the toilet flush the toilet then siphon the cistern in to the pan then the pan in to an old bucket )

What I thought really.

Going to price up a full bathroom today, and the customer on the phone said the plumber had a coule of days work left to do, then needs the walls and floor tiling, and with what he said it sounded like he'd been having a new suit fitted.

Any plumber worth his salt ,would asked if the floor was to be tiled and make allowances for height ....plumbers are the worst for dumping problems on tilers because of sheer lack of thought...and respect.I don't miss them at all lmao

Well Im going round to measure up their bathroom in half an hour, so I'll find out exactly what the situation is propper.

All I know so far is that it's walls and floor, around 25sqm all in, says he's already got all the tiles and wherever he got them from he said they have given him 3 bags of adhesive grout, which he didn't think would be enough.
So the way he said it on the phone sounded like mixed adhesive\grout in powdered form, which if they do make that, I'll probably be telling them they need to take it back and I'll get me some peopper gear in.

As I said, I'll know more soon.
