MICK the Tiler

I can remember being taught a really good lesson and I didn't even know it such was the cunning and wisdom held by my teacher (My 1st boss)

When I started my trade I was only 14 and I was made to mix compo (FOR BRICKS, bricklaying was part of my trade) for 1 whole year, about 6 months of this torture I finally muscled up the courage to front the BOSS.

"Why do I always have to mix MUD!!" I protested "Because you will get good at it" Came the snappy reply. "There is another reason and I'll tell you in about another 6 months" he saddistically added.

So back to the cement mixer I went tail between my legs and continued in that spot for the next 6 months.

Then one day in the the morning I'd resumed my position beside the mixer ready fo another gruellig day. Suddenly I herd a whistle and looked up to see the boss gesturing me to come over to him. I followed his command and as I approched his hand outstreched signalling me to shake it.
I did, and as I did the boss gave a slow nod of his head and with a rye smile he said " when you first came to me you were soft and weak and now your hands are hard and strong your grip as tight as a vice your body has beefed up you are ready to to lay bricks" He also added " You see Mick if I had got you to lay bricks on your first day your hands and wrists would not of coped with the strain and you would have had alot of down time with cut and sore hands and strained wrists and a bad back, you needed to be conditioned to the point where laying bricks now, will be easy and you will make your boss some coin.

LESSON LEARNED!!!

Was he called Mr. Mayagi (no idea if that is how you spell it :whatchutalkingabout)

Close??

Mr Frank Tomasi

He could cut tiles on in a sigma in ways that would leave you gobsmacked. I've tried some things for 15 years and still can't do some tricks he had. He tiled with his father from the age of 4. he laid his last tile at the age of 80. He's still going strong I speak with him regularly he's now 98 and a sharp as a tack. My life coach and mentor.

A true Italian Master
