hi everyone,my parents are currently renovating the kitchen..lifted the lino and found uneven slc so started to lift that to find vinyl tiles lifted them and found slc again lifted that and found original flagstones which have been painted red!!!! lol they would like to restore the flagstones is there a product out there that would remove paint from them,,any help well appreciated thanks:santa_cheesy:

im assuming sandblasting them will involve a company? i think they want to do it themselves to save dosh ,,what product would chemically strip them safely?:8:

You need to determine what type of paint it is....it could well be lead based...and then you will have a fight on your hands removing it...

Did a job like this recently. The chances are the paint will be lead based and if this is the case the thinner you make it with solvents the further it spreads. Sandblasting may be too harsh??? I would do some tests on them to determine the best way to deal with them!!! They could be ground depending on how flat they are or how riven they are. Alternatively it may be quicker and cheaper to hire a vacuum lifter and siimply reverse them and then just clean them! Lots of Options for you there but I would suggest it is not a DIY Job you will need to get involved

Absolutely spot on Dave the stuff spreads like water if its thinned down and makes clean up even more difficult

Pictures of about two hundred year old flagstone in the before picture the sides were painted with about 5 layers of different grey paint joints were mixture of cement and lime and polyfiller. Stripped using Aquamix products and various combinations of paint strippers as well as grinders etc hard work but finished article was worth it. Click on link it will take you to the original post I did.
