‘Schluter kerdi board’ is a waterproof, strong, lightweight and easy to cut. It has very high thermal values. It is made up of ‘XPS extruded hard foam, with a fleece membrane anchoring the reinforced ‘cement free outer’ coating. Kerdi board is flat, dimensionally stable and can withstand chemical stresses. The board has 10mm x 10mm squares printed on one side of the board for easy installation

. it comes in various thickness ie: 5mm, 9mm, 12.5mm, 19mm, 28mm, 38mm, and 50mm
. Board sizes are width 1.25m x length 2.6m. Specialist sizes are also available
. Maximum weight ratio is 60kg/m2 when mechanically fixed using screws.
. 50kg/m2 when bedded to solid block/brick wall. The weight ratio is determined by the substrate!
. Kerdi board has different boards available including the v- board, the u- board

Installation...
There are 3 methods of installing Schluter Kerdi Board
1. Fully Embedded – this method is suitable for stable and relatively flat substrates. Spread a layer of SPF adhesive onto the substrate using a 6-8mm notched trowel. Fix and press the boards firmly to the adhesive so that the fleece anchoring layer fully bonds into the adhesive. Leave to cure, then tile.

2. Dabs of Mortar – set dabs of SPF adhesive at 300mm centres on the board (horizontally and vertically). Place the boards against the wall and tap firmly into place and check for level. Allow the adhesive dabs to cure then tile. This method is suitable for uneven substrates. the dabs should compress to approx 10mm thick and there should also be a slight air void.

3. Mechanically Fixed – Kerdi board can be mounted vertically or horizontally to frame work. If the boards are fitted vertically, ensure each board lands on the centre of each batten. If the boards are fitted horizontally, use kerdi tape over the exposed joints. The screws should have sufficient grip into the frame work. Ie 20mm for timber and 10mm for metal. The screws should be fixed at 250mm centres.

Partition/Curved Wall Systems: – When constructing partitions, steps, seating etc in either flat or curved boards, ensure each board is bonded together with SPF adhesive. The edges of partitions can be structurally strengthened by inserting end sections example. U or V section. Fixing can also be used to attach the boards to adjacent walls for added strength. Curved Boards must have the pre-scored panels that form the curve, filled in with SPF to create added support and strength.

Fixing to Timber/Concrete Floors: – Ensure the floor area is suitable flat, level and structurally stable prior to fixing boards. Do not fix boards over existing expansion joints and leave a 6mm perimeter movement joint. Spread SPF adhesive onto the floor and comb through using a suitable notched trowel. Bed the boards into the adhesive so that the fleece anchors securely and allow to set. 6mm, 9mm, 12.5mm and 19mm can all be used for floors.
Note: For thicknesses of 28mm and over, ensure the floor is suitably load bearing! In this situation, boards can be dabbed. Place the dabs closer together and place a ‘thin bed mortar’ to the joints and edges of the boards. Use an ‘edge strip’ to rule out the build up of tension in the boards!
. A minimum of 5cm x 5cm sized tiles should be fixed over kerdi boards.

Tip! – When applying adhesive to the slotted side of a curved board. Lay the board flat, skim coat the adhesive over the slots, then fix into place and ‘bend’ this pushes the adhesive through the slots and
Ensures the right amount of adhesive is distributed and squeezing through for a keyed bond!!
