Discuss screeding help! in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

I am a newbie and on an ICA/NVQ evening tiling course in Nottingham.

Anyway I need to level part of my hallway at home, the area is about 2m square, starting at about 2mm running off to the front door to about 40mm.

I thought self leveling might become too expensive.
I thought sand/cement mix would be good practice. but is 2mm too shallow for this?

I then thought should I batten it about halfway, do the deeper part sand/cement, then wait for it to dry off then self level the shallow part.

Am I making hard work of it?

Ps. I,m in no rush, so don't mind waiting for full cement drying times.

Anyway any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

only 2 sq metres! There are smoothing compounds ( 'self levellers') that will allow the incorporation of aggregate( fine chippings)size given in instructions. Use this mix to fill the main depth and leave a few mm for a final top coat without chippings. Screeding with SBR incorporated in a sand cement mix is fine also, and easier, but not to certain that it will feather down to 2mm
